Catholics taking another detour

So it looks like this isn't just a travel blog but an anything I want to talk about blog. Here we go. What does Los Angeles Community Action Network, Young Workers United, Chinese Progressive Association, Women's Community Revitalization Project and ACORN all have in common? They are for abortion, homosexual marriage, legalized prostitution and...........were funded by the CCHD. What is the CCHD? It is the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, the social arm of the United States Conference for Catholic Bishops. How do Bishops, whose Church was founded by Christ Himself, allow faithful Catholics to have their hard earned money go to such anti-catholic organizations? This is just another scandal that follows the horror of sexual abuse by priests and Bishops and their coverup. Catholic schools and parishes are closing and these shameful men are spending the faithful's money on the Devil's work. Well the faithful have to make their voices known and hold these Bishops' feet to the fire. These Bishops better think long and hard at what they are doing for as Jesus said "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung round his neck and he were thrown into the sea."

But don't despair the Holy Spirit is in charge.The real amazing thing is that through 2000 years this Catholic Church has been led by Popes, mostly good but some bad and has never deviated from the Truths of the Faith. In matters of faith and morals they have been consistent from the time of Christ. Through heresies, greed, murder, unfaithful Bishops and all kinds of sin, Popes(even the bad ones) have consistently kept the Truths of the faith. Jesus keeps his promises..."I will be with you always even till the end of time." Even Christ's twelve apostles had doubts(Thomas), lapses of faith(Peter) and betrayal....Judas. Let's hope today's Bishops follow the path of Thomas and Peter and not Judas.

Beauty

Is beauty in the eye of the beholder? No. Beauty is in the object which imposes itself on the eye. We see not just the object but the beauty contained therein. Now we all know this almost as clearly as we know that 3 is the square root of 9. A good way to understand this is the following. I learned this from one of C.S. Lewis' books. I believe it was The Abolition of Man. When we see a waterfall or let's say a majestic mountain, if we say how majestic that mountain is are we just saying something about our feelings or something about the object? We are saying something about the object. We aren't saying we have majestic feelings. We know this because when we look at the mountain we are humbled before the beauty of the mountain. In fact it is because we are having feelings of humility before the majesty of the mountain that we know it is not our feelings. If it were we'd say how humble the mountain is. And we in fact say just the opposite. The object imposes it's beauty on us. Isn't it great that we can be touched by objects outside of ourselves? Enjoy!

Finding Truth in the American West

Philosophy is another very important subject to me. Dr. Peter kreeft once said that he became a philosopher for job security. All work in this world will pass away but even philosophers will be needed in the next world because they study everlasting Truth. So why am I bringing this up on what seems to be a travel blog. Well this isn't just a travel blog... it is a Truth blog. Beauty is Truth. There is beauty in the American West. Everytime I travel there it imposes it's Truth on me.
